A Message from Mrs Ellis

Wow, it’s the end of March already!  It seems like such a long time since the last newsletter.  I have so much to share. We now have an active school council team who are having regular meetings.  Their next step is to have the confidence to share their views and next steps with their classes.  Their ideas have already fed into our recent FoPS meeting which is my next bit of news.  We have a new FoPS team who have been incredible at organising our Easter event – all of which will be shared shortly!!  We have decided that, with COVID still very much in our lives, we would leave the fair until the summer where we can be outside.  We have also just launched our Well-Being team, which will also feed into the school council team.  The parent survey was very positive.  Thank you for all the supportive comments and praise.  Below is a table in response to a few comments.   Parent Comment Our Response More of a choice for after school clubs. Unfortunately, COVID had restricted this.  However, in the summer term we plan on offering more and for bubbles to mix, especially for those activities that children can do outside.   I would like more homework.  We will have a discussion as staff and share our thoughts with you all.  However, there is an expectation that children read daily and learn their multiplication/addition facts.  Knowledge Organisers are also being sent home and children should be learning the information on the page because they are quizzed in class.  This is especially important at the start of a new unit.  The Knowledge Organisers are sent home at least a week before the new topic begins.    Class teachers don’t communicate enough with parents. This is always a difficult one for me and I will send out another short Google Form so that you can help me understand this better in order to make the necessary improvements.     As I mentioned on Dojo, we raised an amazing £326 (slightly more than I reported) for our Ukraine fundraiser.  Across the Trust we raised £2,200 with the help of the donations from Monkton Garden Centre and appeared in the newspaper. We also raised £106 on Red Nose Day.  We have had lots of positive feedback from Suzanne Flack’s (CEO) visits noting the engagement of pupils and the rise in writing standards across the school.  As I always say, I am incredibly proud to be part of Priorswood and thank the staff for all their hard work in getting us to this point. World Book Day was a great success. Well done to all of you for your amazing costumes.      Categories: 1 CategorySchool News

A message from Carly Ellis Christmas and New Year seem like such a distant memory!  I do hope everyone had a restful break. The children have started the new year calmly and with enthusiasm for learning!  We have just started using different exercise books for our humanities learning which the children really like.  We have also just started teaching our science themes weekly instead of as a block at the end of each half term.  The children have been speaking very enthusiastically to me about this so I am pleased that this change has inspired a love for science.  Before Christmas I asked the children what they would like to do more of in science and a majority of them said ‘to make more potions’!  I am hoping that in a few weeks they will be able to articulate this in a more scientific way!  I have had a lot of conversations with the children about the curriculum and they are all saying that they are really enjoying all the learning in the wider curriculum and I am sure that with all this exposure, we will be uncovering talents that even they didn’t know existed.  I am really proud of what we offer here at Priorswood and I am grateful for all the hard work from the teachers and support staff.  They really have been working relentlessly in order to provide the best education to the children. As you are aware, we have sent home knowledge organisers at the start of our science and main driver (History or Geography) projects.  We would really like your support in encouraging the children to learn the information on the sheet.  We will be developing this information through our project but in order for new information to stick, it needs something to stick to, which is why the very basic knowledge is sent home in the form of a knowledge organiser.  The children will be taking part in some fun quizzing as the project unfolds.  It is my mission this term to relaunch our FOPs!  I did Dojo about this a while back and I have noted those who showed an interest.  Please, if you are interested and fully support everything we do here, then we would love to hear from you!  I would like to get some dates in the diary as soon as possible.  Thank you. We are looking forward to welcoming Mrs Coussell to the Priorswood team, She will be teaching Hedgehog Class as of 31st January.  Categories: 1 CategorySchool News

A Message from Carly Ellis

Christmas is here! I am so looking forward to the holiday and spending time with my family.  I am sure you’ll all be busy with the lead up but hopefully you’ll all get some rest afterwards! School is the place to be at Christmas.  The children have enjoyed lots of treats this week.  They have made some cakes, sung around the Christmas tree, been creative in making cards and calendars, performed in the nativity, enjoyed a festive dinner with crackers and had a Christmas party.  The biggest treat of all was the pantomime and a visit from Santa who gave each child a gift.  They will have so much to tell you this week! I’m looking forward to the new year and continuing on the journey we are on.  We have made so much progress and we will continue to do so next year.  I hope you have all managed to watch the virtual tour.  The children were fantastic and said exactly what they thought about their school when asked.  It’s great to know that the children feel this way about Priorswood.  It must be lovely for you all to watch what is happening in school as you have had to keep a distance for so long now.  Well, I’m going to keep it short and sign off now.  I hope you all have a great rest and look after yourselves!  I’m not sure what January will bring but plans are in place should we need to do any remote learning.  Fingers crossed we won’t and I’ll see you all on 5th January.  Have a Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year!  Categories: 1 CategorySchool News

Can you believe that we are now at the end of November?  I took my children to see the Christmas lights being turned on in town at the weekend, which seemed really early!  School life seems to be maintaining its fast pace which will be notched up again with the preparation of the Nativity.  Due to the constraints of COVID we will not be able to share this with you in person.  We would hate for the Christmas period to be dampened with positive cases which may have been a result of sharing our Nativity in person.  We hope you understand. I hope you all had the opportunity to see all the Poppies that were created in Forest School and tied up on our front gates as a remembrance to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts.  They looked amazing. We raised £162.81 for Children in Need - thank you all so much!  The children always enjoy a good dress-up day and looked great in their outfits.   The children had a railway safety awareness assembly to demonstrate the dangers and to deliver key messages.  This has come as a rise in incidents on railways recently.  Stag and Badger class had a visit from SWT Engagement Lead Angela Bolitho and Elaine Jones from ENGIE (the main contractor) to talk about the dangers of trespassing on a building site. This is currently really important with the regeneration project that is underway in North Taunton with both demolition and rebuilding that is going on.  Angela has said that they were very impressed with how well behaved the children were, how well they listened, participated and took on board the important messages they were sharing about the dangers on building sites. There is currently a lot of roadworks around Taunton too.  We have just been informed that on 4th January (for a month) there will be a road closure turning into Wedlands from Cheddon Road.  We are currently putting together a preloved uniform list which we are hoping we can make ‘live’ very soon where you will be able to purchase good quality second hand logo uniform items for £3.  There is a trade in option where, if you trade in a good quality logo item, you can purchase another for £2.  We will let you know when this is up and running. Please enjoy the day tomorrow as school is not open and we will see you all on Monday 29th November. Categories: 1 CategorySchool News
